# Introduction

Bud is a companion for reviewing a web project with your team and your agents.

Bud runs next to your development server. It shows your live site page by page, puts the pages you choose side by side on a canvas, lets you browse and review your code, and keeps every conversation next to the work it's about. When you want, it hands a task to a coding agent in a sandbox and waits for your review.

- **Pages** – your configured routes beside a browser of the live site
- **Canvas** – every configured route as an always-current, full-page screenshot
- **Comments** – pin feedback to a point on a page or to lines of code
- **Tasks** – a board and task pages for the project's [Beads](https://github.com/gastownhall/beads) issues
- **Agents** – the [factory](/docs/app/guides/factory): a comment becomes a task, a coding agent finishes it in a sandbox, and nothing is pushed until someone approves
- **Files** – browse, edit, diff and stage without leaving the review
- **Storage** – tasks and discussions live in your project's Beads workspace, or in another store through an adapter

Bud shows each of these once your project has what it needs, and `bud doctor` says what the rest needs. For the whole team, [a hosted Bud](/docs/app/collaboration/hosting) runs on Cloudflare for a GitHub repository.

Bud doesn't replace your editor, framework or coding agent. It gives everyone the same view of what is being built, so the next change starts with a specific page, a precise detail and a decision, whether your own agent makes it or one Bud runs.

## How it works

```ts title="vite.config.ts"
import { defineConfig } from 'vite'
import { bud } from '@bud.sh/app/vite'
export default defineConfig({
  plugins: [bud()],
})
```

Bud starts with your Vite dev server and prints its URL. Your pages are served by your own app. Bud captures them in a headless browser and captures them again whenever they change, so the canvas follows your edits.

## Next steps

- [Install Bud](/docs/app/getting-started/installation) in a Vite project
- [Choose your routes](/docs/app/getting-started/configuration)
- [Leave your first comment](/docs/app/guides/comments)
- [Let agents finish tasks](/docs/app/guides/factory)

> [!NOTE] Free
> Bud installs from npm as one package, `@bud.sh/app`, with its Vite plugin and the `bud` command.
